A Bit of History – SVD TN Fraternity
The SVD TN Fraternity traces its origins to the apostolic schools established by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) in Tamil Nadu, India. These schools were founded to nurture young minds in faith, discipline, and missionary spirit — inspired by the vision of St. Arnold Janssen, the founder of the SVD.
Over the decades, many students who passed through these institutions carried forward the values of service, spirituality, and intercultural harmony into their personal and professional lives. As they transitioned into lay vocations, a desire grew to remain connected — not just to each other, but to the mission that shaped them.
Thus emerged the SVD TN Fraternity: a lay movement of alumni and collaborators who continue to live out the SVD charism in their daily lives. Formed by faith and bonded by shared formation, the fraternity became a space for spiritual renewal, community engagement, and missionary support.
Today, the fraternity stands as a living bridge between apostolic formation and lay mission — honoring its past while actively shaping the future.
